Documentation of crimes eyeWitness to Atrocities

Friends, De Jure has joined the EyeWitness to Atrocities project and invites each of you to join!

We want to introduce you to this project and show you how you can help your country.

What is EyeWitness to Atrocities?

EyeWitness to Atrocities is an application for documenting crimes, developed at the initiative of the International Bar Association (IBA). He helps capture photo and video evidence, which will then be passed on to the Ukrainian authorities and the International Criminal Court, which investigates Russia’s war crimes against Ukraine.

How to use the application?

· Download the app from the Google Play Store (Android only).

· Enable geolocation services to prove where the material was taken.

· Take photos, record video or audio with the app. The application automatically indicates on the materials the place, date and time (metadata), which cannot be changed. The Internet is only needed to download the application and footage, not to record metadata.

· Add a description to the footage (data of perpetrators, names of victims, locations, context, etc.).

· Upload a copy of the footage to a secure eyeWitness server to save location, date, and time information. If you use phone data to download, activate “Download to mobile phone” in the gallery app settings.

· Once downloaded, you can save a copy and share on social media.

Security features:

· App masking: select different icons to hide the app on the home screen.

· Hidden Gallery: Captured material is stored in a secure repository in the application using a password. If you enter the wrong password, the standard phone gallery will open instead of the secure app gallery.

· Emergency uninstall: Quickly uninstall the program from the camera and gallery settings (materials that have not yet been downloaded will be lost).

Data verification and protection:

· EyeWitness can verify the authenticity of the footage for the media and other organizations. If you publish your footage online, report that it was taken using the eyeWitness to Atrocities program to be able to authenticate the footage.

· EyeWitness securely stores downloaded materials and actively seeks to use them as evidence in investigations and trials.

· You can provide an email address if you wish to be contacted by eyeWitness to obtain consent for the use of your materials or additional information.

More detailed information about the application (Resource Center) can be found at the link.

If you have any questions about the technical aspects of the program, inquiries from the media or investigative bodies, the developers of the program can be contacted at the contact details provided at the link.
