Celebrating the Day of the Bar

December is rich in professional holidays related to law enforcement and security agencies. Recently, we congratulated the Armed Forces of Ukraine, prosecutors and courts. Today is the time to wish all our fellow lawyers the best!

Currently, out of 72 thousand registered lawyers, more than half (48,000) are actively practicing. And over the past few months, according to statistics, there have been 6 more lawyers in Ukraine every day. What a young specialist can expect and what are the features of the lawyer’s profession, we discussed with Yuriy Kostynyuk, the head of the legal practice of the company “DE-JURE” and a successful lawyer with hundreds of victories in court battles.

• Does every lawyer dream of becoming a lawyer?

A lawyer is one of the most creative professions in the legal industry, which is associated with judicial work, active communication with people and the search for creative solutions. It is not surprising that many lawyers consider the legal profession as an important career step. However, there are also lawyers who are quite satisfied with calm work without daily challenges.

• What qualities does a good lawyer need?

First, professionalism – the ability to solve difficult issues quickly and effectively, and secondly, integrity. Love for one’s profession is no less important, because being a lawyer is a calling, not just a desire to earn money.

• Can I surprise you with something in a professional sense?

After so many years in the legal profession, it seems to me that I have seen everything. Especially considering that the specificity of large law firms, such as “DE-JURE”, is large, complex and interesting cases. Sometimes I would even like to immerse myself in stable routine work for a change!

• What makes you happy in the profession?

Successfully ending a legal dispute or solving a client’s problem. However, I am not upset about defeats, because this is also an important experience.
